This is a very pretty and lovely course. Use your driver sparingly because this is a real thinker’s course. The 15th, a 485-yard doglegged par five, is a typical Duchess shot-maker’s delight. The Duchess starts off in scintillating fashion with a couple of absorbing holes and has a much better and compelling routing than the Duke’s. For me the Duchess is a far better course, and it's not even close. The Marquess' is laid out in a natural woodland habitat, with many beech, birch, pine and oak trees majestically defining the holes. Ok before anyone responds by saying why play Woburn Duchess if you don't like parkland. It’s undulation and routing makes for a more interesting round than The Dukes and in my opinion, a much prettier course. The three 18-hole courses at Woburn are: Marquess Course (par-72, 7,214 yds from back tees); Duke's course (par-72, 6,976 yds); Duchess Course (par-72, 6,651 yds). Many also say it’s much tighter but, whilst it possibly is a little bit, I didn’t think this was too noticeable. In fact, the trees are thick and the fairways narrow that at times it does not feel like a parkland course. See other reviews from Cédric. Although it probably has less stand-out holes (maybe the 1st is my favourite), for me it has less poor holes and it is a good solid course.
